Becoming an entrepreneur comes with a lot of benefits, freedom, and most of all building a long term brand for yourself and your generations to come. Becoming an entrepreneur requires that you look at the big picture and follow a plan through from beginning to end. In this article, I will be brining you 4 key steps on how to become an entrepreneur.
1. Plan & Research
If you fail to plan, then plan to fail. You will need to come up with a business idea first of all, what are your passions, interests, hobbies? Think about different ways of transforming that passion into an actual business. Now your business idea may seem to you like the next best thing in the world, but the big question is are people interested in it? If no ones interested in your idea, then your idea may swell just remain an idea. So you need to make sure you not only come up with an idea but also do some research to ensure there’s a need out there for your business, and people are indeed willing to pay for your products & services. Becoming an entrepreneur involves not only planning a business but also researching that idea to ensure it works.
2.Don’t Quit Your Day Job.
I started all of my online businesses part time whilst working full time, because at the end off the day I had rent, bills, taxes and debt to pay. You need a steady flow of income each month to cater for your expenses because starting a business won’t make you rich overnight. Research has shown that it takes at least 6 -12 months for most small businesses to make their first sale. Working for someone else will also help you understand how businesses operate, how to treat customers, how to manage time, and how a real life company actually functions. Use this as a personal growth process and equip yourself with those transferable skills you can apply on your own business. Becoming a successful entrepreneur not only involves starting a business but also learning the skills required to manage a business.
Working over the years has not only built my confidence to start my own business but has definitely equipped me with the skills necessary to deal with everyday challenges on my own business. So keep that job until your business builds enough momentum before you think about quitting.
3. Have an Online Presence.
This doesn’t only apply to online businesses but offline businesses too. Over 99% of big companies are now going digital. The reason for this is simple: customers are now online with people now spending time on their gadgets, phones, ipads, laptop, tablets etc, most of the time. Having an online presence also eliminates the limitations of a physical location and broadens your customer base. It’s also a great way to promote yourself whilst reaching out to millions of customers worldwide. If you want to become a successful entrepreneur, then you need to start thinking about creating a website if you don’t already have one.
4. Take Action
Talking about your business idea is amazing, but if you not going to do anything to push that business forward, you may as well keep the idea to yourself. Successful entrepreneurs are people who not only bluff about a business idea, but actually take action and make sh**t happen. It’s like saying you want to lose weight but not taking the necessary steps to losing that weight. You are better off not even talking about it in the first place. So you need to take action and just get going and everything will fall in place.
So these are my top 4 steps on how to become a successful entrepreneur. In conclusion, becoming a successful entrepreneur requires taking action, making sacrifices, taking risks, overcoming failures and never ever giving up.
